Police Identifies, Arrests Officers who Dehumanise Lady in a Viral video
The police has said that it has identified and arrested the officers and civilian involved in the dehumanization of one Towobola.
The arrested officers had gone to the home of a suspected kidnapper and armed robber to arrest him and met the 25-year-old lady.
The policemen, after taking the kidnap suspect away, faced Towobola, handcuffed her and accused her of sleeping with the alleged kidnapper.
One of the police officers who identified himself as ‘Wyclef’, brought out his phone and started to film the Tobowola as he asked her questions about her sex life.
The video went viral and stirred criticism on the internet .
In a statement released by the force, it promised to initiate appropriate disciplinary procedure once investigations are concluded .
The statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, Frank NBA, reads, “Following investigations into the dehumanizing treatment of a female citizen as shown in a viral video on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020, the Nigeria Police Force have identified three police officers and one civilian accomplice who participated in the unprofessional act.
“Two suspects, ASP Tijani Olatunji and Inspr Gboyega Oyeniyi have been arrested for their role in the discreditable conduct and incivility to a member of the public. They are currently being detained at the Lagos State CID detention facility, Panti, Yaba.
“Preliminary investigations show that the policemen who are attached Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, were on legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan, Oyo State where the incident took place.
“Effort is being intensified to arrest the two other accomplices. Meanwhile, appropriate disciplinary procedure will be initiated as soon as investigations are concluded”.
